AIMS Features & Benefits

Feature

Benefit

Single point of entry

Previously isolated systems (e.g. complaints, occupational health & safety) can now be consolidated into a single system for greater accessibility and efficiency. Key benefits include a reduction in staff training and system maintenance.

Customisable data entry

Customisable data entry forms provide control over the information elicited and allow incident collection to be matched to business processes.

Cascading natural questions

Guides users to classify incidents in a detailed, consistent and structured manner.

HIT-Classification TM

Generic Reference Model (GRMTM )

Healthcare Incident Type (HIT)

The incident story is de-constructed into pieces of information via the GRM, which is based on the Reason model of complex system failure. The AIMS HIT-Classification provides structure and detail to incident information, enabling comprehensive analysis to reveal the how and why.

Incident targeting

(Part of classification)

Useful for understanding serious incidents and for special projects aimed at collecting information on particular system flaws. During data entry for the targeted incident, users are prompted to answer (classify) specific and detailed questions.

Classification of specialist incident types

Provides greater relevance and specificity for incidents arising in specialised health care settings, e.g. anaesthesia, obstetrics (maternal and foetal), etc.

Aggregate Incident
Information

Enables comparison between like organisations and services with consistency, while maintaining patient and notifier privacy.

Chart Wizard

Guides user in the creation of a wide array of reports.

Report Generation

Reports can be printed in groups or batches and distributed via e-mail or compiled into other reports.

Privacy protection

Conceals sensitive patient and notifier information where necessary, while also providing data access.

Audit trail

Tracks changes made to incident reports to prevent data tampering or confusion.

Workflow management
(Work Flow Module)

Provides alerts and workflow processes (user defined) to be initiated following notification of selected incidents.

Risk matrices
(part of Data Manager Module)

User defined matrix (up to 10x10) providing a systematic method of risk categorisation to determine severity. Default is set to AS/NZS 4360:1999 risk management standard.

Risk Register
(option)

A tool for risk assessment data capture and subsequent analysis and input to a risk register.
