The PSI Board plays an important role in directing PSI's long-term strategy. With expertise spanning several disciplines including; health care, patient safety, information technology, marketing strategy, finance and accounting - PSI's board provides valuable insight and practical support.



Marc Makrid - Acting Chairman
Marc's qualifications in Business Marketing and his consulting experience brings together a significant level of involvement, both strategic marketing and human resources activities - across a wide range of industries/companies with strong IT involvement.


Phillip Henshall
Phillip's background is in finance and accounting. In the past Phillip has worked in a financial controller role for APSF and PSI.


Bill Runciman, B.Sc. (Med), M.B.B.Ch., F.A.N.Z.C.A., F.J.F.I.C.M., F.R.C.A., F.H.K.C.A., PhD (APSF representative)
As founder of the APSF and a PSI Director, Bill provides invaluable international business development, market intelligence and marketing input. A luminary of patient safety, Bill is a highly respected researcher (100 publications and well over 2,000 citations in patient safety and quality) and a sought after speaker. He has connections to major the peak bodies in the patient safety field and has played a significant role in development of the World Health Organization (WHO) International Classification for Patient Safety (ICPS). As the inventor of the AIMS classification, Bill continues to contribute to the development process.

In 1988 Bill and APSF colleagues conceptualised and implemented AIMS in the form of a nation-wide paper-based anaesthesia incident monitoring project. Bill founded the APSF in 1988, since then he has provided leadership and made fundamental contributions to patient safety and quality research.

Bill is concurrently Professor of Patient Safety & Healthcare Human Factors at the University of South Australia and Director of the Collaboration for Translating Evidence into Practice (CTEP, www.ctep.com.au ) of the Joanna Briggs Institute and Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Ray Clark (APSF representative)
Ray has a strong background in financial planning and investment, and serves on several boards.
